Wedding
I just want to say quickly, a bit on Britney Spears. I play on my blog quite a bit, about being famous; maybe, even I slosh around the idea that I desire her position or that of any of the hard "pAArtying" starlets.
I do on some masochistic level yearn for that. It is not a main focus however. It is not something I'm striving for every minute of the day.
That being said, I express now a quiet contemplative concern for this girl.
I Was watching TMZ.com, and the footage from this past week's escapades. I hit on a few celebreality sites (Perez Hilton, the superficial) and what may be one of the last true blue Britney fan sites in existence.
The conclusion I draw, is that this girl is entirely too overexposed.
Getting married, having two kids and getting divorced with in 3 years is a bout of trials for anyone. The exciting rush of planning a wedding, saying the vows, and honeymooning are a stressful highpoint. Becoming pregnant, with all of its involuntary hormonal ups and downs and physical and emotional changes and reactions is a rollercoaster. When done back to back, it becomes a tilt-a-whirl on a rollercoaster, and then to divorce and possibly experience uncontrollable post partum at the same time. Many women find rough moments with a positive and stable support system surrounding them.
Britney has paparazzi. In video she parties with mere acquaintances. One can only assume she is overwhelmingly disjointed from her family, as they have more or less disappeared from footage of her. Her mother Lynne spoke out, so did her assistant. Countless people have made attempts to help her. Even Paris, thought she was nighting it too much.
Now of course, she has shaved her head. Not that the hair mattered, its what it symbolized. Was it an act of cleansing, there are rumors of rape or assault of some kind. Or was it just an image change? It could have been for attention...although I doubt it. I'd like to think even Britney knows the paparazzi will follow her no matter what and that she doesn't need drastic measures to make news. Then again, maybe she's scared of losing the attention, but again I doubt it.
The term 'cry for help' has been thrown around quite a bit over the past few weeks with her along with repetitive (and alarming) stories of constant crying, smoking, and alcohol consumption. So here's what I believe.
This can only end badly. I say that with about as much sarcasm as the Pope delivers Sunday Vatican mass with. Celebrities tend to have high and low points. In her age group, they usually recover...they usually come back up. Positive note...bad note...and back, the starlets are never on the outs for long. Yet this time, this girl is not coming back up. She is drowning.
It seems though, that everyone is just waiting for her to inevitably resurface. We all know how this will play out. She will end up the next Anna Nicole, and two children will be left more motherless than they (no doubt) already have been. She is self-destructive, and this is what can be noticed just from what we see in tabloids and papers. One can only imagine what's being hidden from view, the secrets the numerous insiders, spinners, and publicists are keeping.
Yes, I used 'self destructive'. There is no doubt in my mind she IS trying to hurt herself. The reasons are unclear. According to Michaele P. Dunlap, Psy.D, Clinical Psychologist cited by the OregonCounseling.Org, shame is a leading factor in most self-destructive behavior in women. Body issues may be a culprit for Britney since birthing two children. Shame of competence may play a role, as well; the reports of her making not so uncommon mistakes in child rearing could have been very detrimental. Relationship issues, separation and divorce, casual rebound relationships, rumors questioning her sexuality. And then of course about her own character. Many people profess fanaticism for her but continually pointed out in the media is her faults, her raunch explorative image has reduced her existence to nothing more than a purveyor of sex and promiscuousness equal to that of a prostitute for some.
When given this insight its no doubt (and no wonder) this girl is breaking down. I only hope someone has the chutzpah to forcibly make this girl come to grips with herself before it's too late and she ends up harming herself. The road she's on now is leading to little more than a tragic T.V. movie with a fatal ending.
